From customers to internal users to clients, everyone who is impacted by a design matters. Too often, only those who assertively speak up or have certain privileges have their needs incorporated into products. I use mindfulness, resourcefulness, and creativity to find and speak to those who aren’t being considered. When you create a product that works for people with the greatest needs, it better serves everyone.
“All that you touch, you change. All that you change, changes you.” Octavia Butler
Effective design considers the interplay between details and the big picture. I strive to understand relationships and the interconnectedness of the elements at play in a challenge space, how they all connect, and then identify the key levers we can pull to impact the system.
It can be easy to get wrapped up in deliverables and deadlines, forgetting that we are people designing for other people in a living, breathing, organic world. At the end of the day, I want my colleagues and users to feel good, healthy, and validated. It’s important to make space for relationship and trust building, healthy communication and collaboration, and joy. It’s not only good for people, it leads to sustainable, impactful products.
